Are we not men? We are racers!

If there was ever a commentary on the status that foreign cars have in this country right now, then it was shown yesterday during lap 124 of the Daytona 500. In case you missed it, here’s what happened:

Now as far as I’m concerned that’s a part of racing. It is going to happen no matter who you are or where you are, and if you are at a Superspeedway like Daytona or Talladega it will happen a lot. But what is interesting are some of the reactions, not from the racers but from one fan in particular that I spotted online. Now yeah I know, a lot of people are going to blame Junior for what happened and Junior’s fans are going to blame Vickers and say that Junior just did what his Daddy would have. That’s the way I look at it. If that were Dale Sr. in a #3 Black GM Goodwrench car then Vickers would have gotten the exact same treatment.

I found a lot of comments about the incident at FOX Sports, most of the comments were along the lines of:

I thought the key to victory was putting yourself in a position to win. Somehow, cutting somebody off who was closing at an incredible rate doesn’t seem to be great decision-making. If Vickers had not made the decision to move down, there would not be an issue. Vickers made his own bed. Now sleep in it and quit whining!

NASCAR sided with Junior, enough said. Vicker’s is a cry baby and will not stand up like a man.

don’t like JR or NASCAR much, but how can Vickers cry like a #### about getting wrecked when he was the one who tried to wreck Dale by blocking him. What an ####.

But the best quote I found was this one:

I don’t see what the big deal is it was just a toyota that he hit no big deal he deserved it anyway

“It was just a Toyota that he hit.” If that isn’t a commentary on how people are starting to feel about how the Big 3 automakers have been treated, then I don’t know what is. Soon GM, Ford and Chrysler are going to have to prove to the Obama Administration and to Congress that they can be profitable. In this economy that may be a tall order because until the banks release some of that bailout money to loosen up some credit, nobody’s buying jack from the Big 3.

Personally I’m hoping that GM, Ford and Chrysler are able to get their acts together and are even able to provide more jobs for those of us who are unemployed and underutilized. Never mind if the pundants have written us off as worthless, we are still able-bodied (for the most part) men and women capable of using a shovel, hammer or wrench. We want jobs even if Conservatives in Congress and in the media don’t want us to have them for their own selfish reasons. We want to be able to support our own families, keep the lights and the heat turned on, food in our children’s stomach’s and most importantly, to exercise our inalienable rights to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of NASCAR!!!

Okay, okay I may be going a little bit overboard but you get the jist.

Look, all of the “Rich Wing” Republicans need to realize something – they are not the real America. The people you see at the tracks each weekend, they are the real America. They are the ones who go to work in the factories each day, who go down to the shop, who toil in the fields that are the backbone of this country, and they need and deserve a support system that you want to take away from them. They are the ones who save up so that they can take their families to the track once or twice a year. They don’t deserve your scorn for working hard every single day and they don’t deserve to be kicked to the curb because it doesn’t fit your bottom line. They deserve to keep their jobs so that they don’t become a statistic, but they deserve something else…

…they deserve our praise.

If ever there was a time for American industry to show what it’s made of, this is it!!! So roll on Big 3, this is one American who is going to be pulling for you guys.

Both on, and off the track.
