With everything that has been going on with the economy in the past few months, you would think that the CEO’s of these Fortune 500 companies would be a little more descreet about what they spend their bailout money on. But nooooooooooo, if they’re not getting all of that bailout money from our taxes and then jetting off to California to treat themselves at some spa (hey, bilking the government for free caysh is hard work) then they are using that bailout money to dole out bonuses.
At least that’s what John Thain, the now former CEO of Merrill Lynch did. He distributed $3 – $4 billion of the bailout money on employee bonuses before the buyout of Merrill Lynch by Bank of America closed. But what really gets me is that earlier in the year, January of 2008 to be presise he did spend about $1.22 million on the re-decoration of his office! Are you kidding me?!? Here is the breakdown on what was spent for this largese…
| Persian Area Rug | $ 87,000.00 |
| Egyptian Silk Curtains | $ 28,000.00 |
| Mink Guest Chairs | $ 87,000.00 |
| Roman Shades | $ 7,300.00 |
| Roman Shade Fabric | $ 11,000.00 |
| Mahogany Pedestal Table | $ 25,000.00 |
| 19th Century Credenza | $ 68,000.00 |
| Hand-Stitched Polynesian Sofa | $ 28,000.00 |
| George IV Desk | $ 18,000.00 |
| Wall Sconces | $ 2,700.00 |
| 6 Antique Chairs | $ 37,000.00 |
| Private Dining Room Mirror | $ 5,000.00 |
| Dining Room Chandelier | $ 13,000.00 |
| Commode On Legs | $ 35,000.00 |

| Grand Total | $1,337,200.00 |
Now, I’m no expert, and I’ve been an underutilized worker for nearly Six years now, but if anyone really deserves that kind of coin it’s got to be one of us. I mean this joker spends $1.3 million on his office and the people who need that kind of cabbage the most, the people who are in real need of a bailout, you and me, can’t even get a sniff?!?!?
I wonder what someone in my position could have spent that amount of caysh on? Let’s see…
Pay off Mortgage – check
Pay off Personal Loan – check
Pay off 2nd personal loan – check
Pay off Credit Cards – check
Pay off New Windows – check
That would take up about $140,000.00, which would mean that wifey and I would have around $1.2 million left to buy a new car (from GM of course), take a trip to Disney World and still have enough left to not worry about running out of money for the rest of our lives (if we’re careful).
It’s stories like this that made me want to do this blog in the first place. This is why I do this. This is why I write what I do. This is why I wanted to give the unemployed and the underutilized a place to go. This is why I look for products on the ‘net that I believe might give you an advantage in your job search because when you are looking for that job then you have to stand out from everyone else. Your resume and cover letter have to be unique and your skills in the job interview have to blow the HR director’s mind to the point where they won’t let you out the door until you agree to come and work for them. Because in this economy where people are worried about if they are going to be able to pay their mortgage and prevent foreclosure, when they are worried that they might not ever be called in for an interview ever again, then the unemployed – and especially the underutilized – need to have an unfair advantage over everyone else.
That is what I am trying to provide for you guys. I am trying o give you the means so that you will have an unfair advantage over someone else when you are going in for that interview, or sending in your resume and cover letter. Because when you trying to work for a company where the CEO spends a fortune on his office decor, then you need all the advantages you can get.
To that end I found three more products that might help in that reguard. All of them were created by Jimmy Sweeney, President of CareerJimmy, who has helped nearly 20,000 people gain employment through his programs. So far I’ve read good reviews about his products: Amazing Resume Creator, Amazing Cover Letter Creator and WOW, you’re hired, a system for acing job interviews (not accounting for any ‘stage fright’ you might encounter). Now I haven’t tried any of them personally, but I am willing to say that you should consider giving his products a shot and seeing if they will work for you. If they don’t, come back here and tell me and I’ll look for something else that might help you.
Because in this new world economy order, we could all use someone on our side.
