America...Jenny, Jenny...America.
Now this is a new one that I had not seen before, and might start seeing more of assuming American employers keep behaving like asses…
So I’m on the ‘net this morning having a little look-see when I come across this item on LukeFord.com. Apparently a young woman named Jenny quit her job recently in a very unique way. She took photos of herself and e-mailed them to her entire office, which by some reports has about 20 employees. The following are the photos that Jenny sent to her former office mates, who I imagine are lighting the torches and gathering the pitchforks even as I write this:
Apparently this was originally posted over at thechive and she has gotten 424 comments at last count – most of them supportive and positive. I have to say that she is a genius for doing this and it shows just how fed up America’s employees really are becoming with their bad bosses. I know that those of you who still have jobs are fortunate to have them given this economy, but that still does not give your bosses license to do whatever the fuck they want to you, screwing over your lives in the process.
Now if you are reading this Jenny let me just say first of all – welcome. Second, I think that you should get yourself a lawyer because it sounds to me like you might have yourself a sexual harassment case against Spencer. Not sure myself, but you might want to talk to a lawyer just in case – and while you’re at it, ask if he’s hiring or knows someone who is. Third, you might want to think about getting yourself a publicist because I have a feeling that you are going to be very, very, VERY famous a lot sooner than you think. Fourth, don’t worry about not having a job right now – I have a feeling that you are not going to be unemployed for long because once people know you, you are going to be getting some job offers…
…and some of them might be from places you might not have thought of.
Don’t get me wrong, you are going to be getting offers from some legitimate businesses out there, possibly for better jobs than you had before. But you need to prepare yourself for the offers from Playboy, Penthouse, Hustler and the like. Not to mention offers from companies like Wicked Pictures, Zero Tolerance and Brazzers.com. I know, I know in some circles it is sad that young women these days who get notoriety get these kind of offers from these companies, but it does happen Jenny, and if it does – don’t be too shocked or offended or embarrassed. Hey, if they are coming after you for something then it must mean that you are doing something right…
Now there is some speculation that this was all a hoax and that this never really happened. Whel it doesn’t matter if this is real or not, if anything it is another indication of just how fed up the American employee is becoming with the people who write their paychecks. This is another example of how bad the attitudes of American employers has become. They have so much power now due to the fact that the economy is bad and people are scared for their jobs that some of these bosses have decided to abuse that power. I’ve got some news for those bosses: what goes around comes around. If you keep treating your employees like shit, then shit is going to come back to you ten-fold. If your bosses figure out that employee morale is down and productivity is down right along with it, they may decide that your employees are not the problem but that you are the problem! If that’s the case, then expect to have security taze your ass before they toss you down the stairs.
We’ve all worked for good bosses in our employment lives, we’ve also worked for some bad bosses – I am no exception. There was Heather, the Assistant Manager at the Pet Supply store I used to work for. There would be days when I was scheduled to open the store by myself and would have no help until noon. On some of these days I had to unload supply pallets all by myself when they were delivered three hours before we opened. Sometimes I had to fend off people who wanted to come in and buy stuff early before the store was open, which earned me a few cuss words and threats of job loss on a few occasions. But that didn’t matter to Heather who would demand to know why I was not able to get everything in the store and stocked before her arrival at noon. Even though I had been ringing up customers, making change, answering phone calls, answering questions about products, all the while trying to get the merchandise in all by myself it didn’t matter to Heather.
But then again, this was the same brat who would come in at noon on these days and go into the back room – and talk on the phone for two hours with her mother!!!! Her mother, Claire was a manager of a different store and she wanted her daughter to check in with her every day. (controlling much?) Then after Heather got off the phone she would come out and take the daily deposit into the bank, which took another 30 minutes. When Heather got back she would ask if I had taken a break, when I told her no she would then proceed to lecture me that I had to take my break no matter what the circumstances were, and that she would have to have me go home a half-hour early as a result. She didn’t care that I was by myself during that time, or that she had “other things to do” – she was going to bust my balls no matter what, and she made life miserable for a lot of people there.
Heather got some comeuppance in the end though, as she was transferred to another store, and from what I heard put on probation. See Heather was not only pissing off the employees of the store, she was offending customers who didn’t like her attitude as well. She had a lot of complaints filed against her to the corporate office by our customers, plus she was spending money without asking permission first. We all thought that she was trying to take over the store from our manager, Jackie – however she didn’t succeed and she got smacked for it.
Now that is not to say that every Heather is a bad boss, but some bad bosses are like Heather. They feel that they can do and say anything they want and because of their position they can get away with it. They feel that they have the right to push other people around and that nothing will happen to them because of where they are. Well I’ve got news for them…in a recession like this you cannot afford to piss off too many people – especially your customers. If your customers get pissed off then they can take their business elsewhere, and they can tell all of their friends not to do business with you. There’s an old saying: if you get good service you’ll tell a friend…if you get bad service you’ll tell ten friends.
Jenny, good for you for standing up and exposing Spencer for what he is and good luck securing yourself a new job. I am sure you will not be unemployed for long.
However, if you are interviewed by a woman with black, wavy hair who talks to you as if you are in Kindergarten and her name happens to be Heather, you might want to have a clear path to the door because you will want to run…
