Is it me or are the rest of you getting these in your e-mail box?

How about this one?

Or this one?

This one has a good “end of the world” flair to it…

This one’s my personal favorite…

Of course there’s this one…

Aaaaaand this one I got in my mailbox only today…

I’ve checked the date when I really started getting these offers in my e-mail – I got the first one on the 20th, three days after President Obama signed the Stimulus Bill into law.
Well, it didn’t take them long, did it?
Now I probably got these e-mails because I was on someone else’s list and that list got sold. Now if any of these look inticing to you be warned, they are not as straighforward as you think. For one thing if you sign up with them you are not signing up for a free e-book or piece of software. You may get that product but you will also get something you might not have expected – a bill for your membership subscription with them.
Yeah, what you are really signing up for is a trial membership that lasts, on average, about 15 days. After that you will get billed for every month you use their “service”, but in all honesty their “service” is really not going to get you much of anything except a lower bank balance. There is a comprehensive list of these scams that can be found over at waffles at noon and it is well worth bookmarking that page because he tries to keep it updated fairly regularly.
But my favorite part about this is the addresses they give for you to write to if you have any problems. They give addresses like Vegas, Miami, Maryland – but the one that really gets me is the address from a place that lets you know it is absolutly a scam…
Belize.
BELIZE!!!!! AS IF A SOUTH AMERICAN ADDRESS WAS NOT GOING TO BE THE MOST OBVIOUS TIPOFF ON THE PLANET!!!!!!
Seriously now, do they really think that we are that stupid? Well they obviously fell that some people out there are that stupid or else they wouldn’t keep trying this crap.
Look clones, it doesn’t matter if you are unemployed, underemployed or underutilized, we are all targets of these snake-oil salesmen and we need to watch out for the stuff that just sounds too good to be true. In this economy, until we can get jobs and lose the “unperson” tag that we’ve been given, we need to be vigilant.
Remember, if it sounds to good to be true…..GOOGLE IT!!!!!
