So close...yet not quite.

It would have been a great boost for all of us who have been laid-off, downsized, disenfranchised, unemployed, underutilized, fired, left out in the cold and written-off in general.

Hey, if the Arizona Cardinals, the down-troddenest franchise in NFL history can win the Super Bowl, then maybe there would have been hope for all of us looking for work. I mean if they could come out on top then why couldn’t we? Right now we could all use a good Cinderella story, and a Cardinal Super Bowl win would have been perfect.

Then again…the Steelers do come from a blue-collar town, and lately blue-collar workers have been taking it on the chin just like the rest of us. So in a sense the Steelers victory is a victory for the little guy too.

Now the Cardinals may have lost but you know what they did do? They never gave up! They came back from a 13-point defecit to lead late in the Super Bowl!! I don’t care if they lost in the end, that’s not the point, the point is they never quit!!! That is a lesson and an inspiration for all of us who are out here in the world trying to get work. I mean if the Cardinals didn’t give up then damnit, neither should I!!!

So keep up with the cover letters, the resumes and the interviews. Kepp networking and asking around to friends and family if they know of any job openings. Because you never know where opportunity is going to come from next.

Congratulations to the World Champion Pittsburgh Steelers, the first NFL Franchise to win 6 Super Bowl titles.

Now as for the commercials this year…

There were a few that made me chuckle, one got an outright guffaw, and tere were a few lame ones that just made me roll my eyes.

Lame – Sobe. WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!?!? I have never understood their fasination with using animated lizards in their ads. Look leave the lizards to Geico okay, they do it a lot better then you.

Annoying – CareerBuilder. JUST GET TO THE PUNCHLINE ALREADY!!!!! IT MADE ME WANT TO BANG MY HEAD INTO THE WALL AND SCREAM MYSELF!!!!!

Stupid – Monster.com and the Moose’s head through the wall. Oh come on you guys, you can’t do any better than that?!?

Excellent – Cheetos. “Give Daddy a kiss” That’s all I’m saying.

Funny – Brigestone. Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head. The Astronauts getting ripped off.

More? – GoDaddy.com. Danica Patrick in the shower.

Cute – Coca-Cola’s version of “A Bug’s Life”.

Nice – Budweisers Clydesdales, but it doesn’t top the 2002 ad and it never will.

By the way in case you don’t know what I am talking about, then click below to see the ad I mean. It was aired a few months after the 9/11 attacks and it still chokes me up.

Well another football season is in the books and there is nothing to do until the combine.

Oh wait, yes there is……
