I normally try to stay away from politics or political thinking or anything that any political yayhoo spits out of their piehole, much less when they put finger to keyboard and prove to all of us, Democrat, Republican and Independant alike, that they don’t give a rat’s AAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSS about us. But I saw something tonight on the eve of what feels like Christmas morning, New Year’s Eve and Marti Gras combined that really has my blood boiling. For any of you out there who are unemployed or underutilized this should piss you off as well, and it shouldn’t matter what political party you belong to, because if you are out of work right now and are looking for a yob then this concerns you!!!
If you don’t know who Ken Blackwell is then you should. Ken Blackwell is a columnist over at townhall.com who was once the Secretary of State of Ohio, and who wants to become the Cairman of the Republican National Committee. Mr. Blackwell wrote a column dated January 16th that gave his reasoning for opposing Barack obama’s stimulus package which could create millions of jobs. Part of what Mr. Blackwell wrote went like this…
…it could create a major electoral advantage for Democrats at taxpayer expense. That would be unacceptable…most federal employees, that are not political appointees, vote Democrat…Creating 600,000 new jobs might help cement Virginia in the Democrat column, making it harder for Republicans to retake the White House.
But wait, there’s more…
A week ago, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Republican, mentioned Mr. Obama says his goal is for 80% of these three million jobs to be private-sector. That means, Senator McConnell continued, that 20% would be public-sector, meaning this bill would create 600,000 new federal government jobs.
So let me get this straight…this yayhoo, this yokel, this putz doesn’t want 3 million jobs created, 2.4 million of which would be private sector jobs, because it would make it harder for Republicans to get elected?!? He would rather we all stay yobless while our houses get foreclosed on, our children go hungry, and our lives ruined because it won’t benefit him and his posse?!?!?!
Words cannot even begin to describe just how STUPID that not only sounds, but actually is!!!! One of the candidates to lead the GOP wants there to be 3 million fewer jobs in this country because he thinks it will make him and his friends look good to registered voters. As if we will all say “Obama had a shot to create a job that I could go out and get and he blew it, so I’m voting for the other guys in the mid-terms.” Yeah, like we are all actually as stupid as he is!!!
What is really amazing me are the comments left behind at townhall about this column. There are people actually saying that he’s right, that it’s a good column, that we shouldn’t create jobs, that Obama’s plan is socialism, yada yada yada, and so on. There was even one guy who said that the 600,000 federal jobs would be “city worker” jobs, and that we would be seeing 600,000 people collecting paychecks by leaning on their shovels. But one thing I’ve noticed is that nobody said that creating 2.4 million private sector jobs that people like you and me could go out and get would be a good thing!!! It’s as if they don’t want you and me to go back to work because for some reason, they equate job creation with socialism and those of us who actually are lucky enough to get a job are recieving government handouts!!!
I actually just left a response at townhall to all of the comments that I read there, and this is what I had to say:
I’ve gone through all of the posts that you guys have written and it seems that all of you are missing something important. Right now there are 12.6 million people who are unemployed in this country who would like one of those 3 million jobs that a lot of you are against creating. There are also 25.2 million underutilized workers out there who would also like a shot at one or more of those jobs, and I happen to be one of them.
I have been out of work and looking for any job I can get for six years now. SIX YEARS!!!!!!!!! To hear some of you guys tell it, it sounds like you don’t want people who are in my situation to have a job!!! What, would that not fit into your precious ideology? Would my having a job prevent some of you from critisizing me for not having one?
Let me bottom line this for you…none of you here seem to be interested in a solution, you only seem to be interested in making the problem worse. Meanwhile guys like me are going to keep networking, keep looking in our local fishwrap, keep looking on Monster and CareerBuilder, keep going to job fairs, and we are going to keep trying to get someone, ANYONE to hire us. Because at the end of the day when the smoke clears, the day is done and the bills are pilled up to the celing, we will still be out here trying to figure out a way to keep our homes, keep the heat on, and keep food in our children’s stomachs.
Think about that the next time one of you says that creating jobs is Socialism, or that hiring someone to work is the same as giving them a handout!!!!!!!
Do I think that they will get the message? Probably not. Someone on that site will probably turn what I said around against me and try to use it to validate their point of view. What they don’t realize is that we are not looking for a handout, we’re not looking for Government Cheese and we’re not looking for charity. All we want is the opportunity to support our families.
That after all, is not too much to ask!
