You're not good enough to work for us, loser!!!
Well I now have my answer from DirecTV…
…they would prefer that I remain underutilized.
They told me that they would let me know by the end of the week one way or another. Since I have heard that before from other companies only to hear nothing, I decided that not hearing anything by the end of business today was not going to be so bad. When the phone didn’t ring I figured that they would be contacting me next week.
Yeah well, shit happens…
I finally decided to check my e-mail box about 15 minutes ago just to see what junk I had gotten. There was one e-mail in there from “Human Resources” but I figured it was from another job that I had applied to telling me the usual “we don’t think you’re good enough for us” crap. I opened it up and got the shock of my life…

What was that I was saying a couple of posts ago about job hunting being like dating?

That makes sense – sort of – as to what could have happened. When they called me to bring me in for the testing they let me know about the background check. I don’t believe they said anything about a credit check however. I know I don’t have a criminal record since they said they wouldn’t interview anyone with a record so I wasn’t worried about that. The credit check is the dumbest thing that a potential employer could do in this economy.
And you’re right, I think its discriminatory too.
A credit report should be based on loans and such, not a characterization of a person, since there could be many factors that could bring down a credit report. It shouldn’t be based solely on that. If a person is called in for an interview, take that person to heart. Listen and description of a job should be given and the person should be given the opportunity to see if they are right for it, can do it but dismissing one solely based on a report that could have been altered, discriminatory or otherwise, shouldn’t be held against one willing, able and needing the job. If a person can’t be given the chance, can’t be able to try to see that particular job is right, than I think employers should reaccess their interview skills and what they are looking for. You can’t gain experience, if no one is willing to give someone the chance. Black and white words do not make the person. Know what I mean? It hsould be based on a good employees values, character or what they are willing to put forth job wise.
