When I logged onto the internet today, this was what I found at MSN.com via the chive:
So it looks as if the entire “girl quits job with dry erase board” tale was a hoax after all. It has now come out that the hoax was perpetrated by thechive.com with the help of an aspiring actress by the name of Elyse Porterfield. This was all done in the same vein as the “Trump Tip Hoax” and the “Teen Texting Disaster Hoax”. Now that I know that this wasn’t really real and that the joke is on me as well as other news outlets I just have to say…

Am I dissapointed that this story wasn’t real? Yeah, a little bit. I mean you have to admit that it would have been a great way to get back at a bad boss, and she was quickly becoming a folk heroine on the Internet. “Jenny” and “Jet Blue guy” were symbols of a workforce that was mad as hell, and they were not going to take it anymore, and they had a lot of supporters who were cheering them on – myself included. Even though “Jenny” is really Elyse and the whole incident never happened it still brought a smile to my face, and I have to thank Elyse and the gang at thechive for that. It turns out that Elyse is on Facebook as well as her own Twitter account where she has 2,395 followers so far. In case you are interested and want to follow her Tweets or “friend” her, feel free.
Now there are those of you out there who might be extremely pissed right now thinking that you have been made a fool of and that you have been embarrassed. The only way you feel like that is if you allow yourself to feel like that and are unable to laugh at yourself and the situation. In the realm of pranks this one was harmless and no dry erase boards were harmed in the production of this prank. Granted, it was a good one, and the webmasters over at thechive deserve a beer for this one – or as they put it a bottle of Jim Beam on us.
That being said, I stand by the assertion that I made the other day about this being a sign for how fed up American employees are becoming with their bad bosses. If you will recall what I wrote:
Now there is some speculation that this was all a hoax and that this never really happened. Well it doesn’t matter if this is real or not, if anything it is another indication of just how fed up the American employee is becoming with the people who write their paychecks. This is another example of how bad the attitudes of American employers has become. They have so much power now due to the fact that the economy is bad and people are scared for their jobs that some of these bosses have decided to abuse that power. I’ve got some news for those bosses: what goes around comes around. If you keep treating your employees like shit, then shit is going to come back to you ten-fold. If your bosses figure out that employee morale is down and productivity is down right along with it, they may decide that your employees are not the problem but that you are the problem! If that’s the case, then expect to have security taze your ass before they toss you down the stairs.
I wrote that and I will stand by it until the day that I go the way of all flesh.
I know that this whole thing wasn’t real, but to me it doesn’t matter because somewhere out there there is a real life “Jenny” who is just as fed up with her asshole of a boss as the “false Jenny” was with “Spencer”. You don’t believe me? Then look at the “Jet Blue Guy” and tell me that American employees have not had it up to here with all of the crap that they have to endure. If it isn’t their bosses treating them like shit, then it is the customers who treat them like shit andthen threaten them with the loss of their jobs if they do not give them exactly what they want on the spot and clean their assholes with their tongues as a bonus. Look we have all had experiences with bad bosses and bad customers, it sucks and it is not right that we should have to give up our dignity just so that we can have a roof over our heads and food for our children. There are a lot of people out there who are working right now who have been forced to give up their self-respect for a paycheck, and it is not right that they are being raped on both sides of the equation.
Things are tough all over for the ones like us who have been shoved out of the employment door and then blacklisted, as well as those who were left behind and are afraid of being blacklisted. But increasingly that fear is becoming anger, anger will soon become hatred and that hatred might lead to suffering for a lot of innocent people caught in the crossfire. Yeah I know I’ve just quoted Yoda, but look George Lucas was onto something when he wrote that line – maybe because it’s true. You don’t believe me? Then look at the Tea Party. They were scared by lies from FOX News and the Health Insurance companies, those lies made them angry enough to lash out at Town Hall meetings, and they have expressed hatred for President Obama and everyone who sides with him.
How long will it be before they cause suffering by shooting people that they have hatred for, and how long will it be before those people start shooting back?
Look I’m not saying that those employees who have been abused should turn to “2nd Amendment Methods” in order to get some payback – no one wants to see that happen, especially me. But everyone needs to get it through their heads that American workers are getting fed up with being treated like they are the Chess Club President who is having their lunch money taken from them by the Starting QB and his Head Cheerleader girlfriend. What goes around comes around, eventually the Chess Club President grows up and starts a software company that makes him a multi-billionaire and marries a blond, Russian supermodel. The Starting QB? Well he goes onto a short career at a Division II school, doesn’t even get to play in Canada upon graduating, and goes from job to job in the exciting field of Waste Disposal Management. The Head Cheerleader? She becomes a motivational speaker, but she serves time in Federal Prison for Tax Evasion.
Like I said – what goes around comes around, eventually the bad bosses will be exposed and demoted, if not fired. The bad customers will go too far someday and they will be advised to take their business elsewhere, and if they don’t leave they will have to be taken away in handcuffs. Honestly, I get the joke that thechive was playing on us and I can laugh about it. But what is happening right now to the employees and the job seekers of America right now is not funny. All of us are beyond frustrated right now and we are becoming very, very angry. I would not be surprised to find that pitchforks are being gathered and torches are being lit. The potential for an employment revolution is very real because we peasants are getting tired of being told to “eat cake”.
The revolution will not be televised, the revolution will be blogged about, and tweeted about, and written up on Facebook…
…and that, ladies and gentlemen, is no joke.
